B03. What happens if my Direct Debit fails and no premium is collected?
We understand that things can sometimes go wrong with your bank and that occasionally we are unable to collect a premium. When this happens we are notified electronically by BACS (the banks' clearing system).
We will ALWAYS contact you to let you know what has happened and to explain what you need to do (if anything).
If it's simply a case of your bank declining payment one month we usually just request 2 payments the next month (after advising you that this is what we intend doing).
If the premium collection fails because the Direct Debit Instruction has been cancelled, either deliberately or accidentally, we will write to you enclosing a new Direct Debit Mandate, giving you the opportunity to set up a new Direct Debit Instruction.
If we are not able to bring payments up to date by the time the next premium is due your cover will normally automatically cease and you will probably have to re-apply for cover if you want to continue to be protected by ASUdirect. If this happens you should contact us to discuss your options.
